As a nice little extra-sadistic touch, the Wakiji we'd defeated hadn't ACTUALLY blown up like they do every time, they just lie there in mortal pain, sparking as their life force bleeds out of them ever so slowly.
... this chapter only, the world exists to make Kohran suffer.

But we were able to keep the damage down to a minimum. Now, let's hurry and quickly return to the theater.
[Kanna]
What're you doing, Kohran? You won't be able to use anything from the remains of the Wakiji, right?
[Sakura]
I-Iris!? Don't go to sleep in a place like this! We'll be back at the theater soon.
Cheering for Sakura for once, because I don't really want to think about how much it'd cost the government to truck a mech that has a cranky, sleepy little girl in it back to base.
... undoubtedly, the cost would be too steep, both in money spent and blood spilled.

And with a hop and a leap, Ogami burns up his fourth Protect charge!

The Wakiji gets in a solid strike of vengeance! Vengeance for all the Wakiji blood that had been spilled over the past year! Vengeance for all the poor little Wakiji babies who have been made orphans, and the Wakiji wives who had been widowed!
Oh, but this is only the beginning.
This next blow will be delivered in the honor of Kage and Samurai, the twin Wakiji who had been torn to shreds that one fateful day, over at--

In the face of such an excellent opportunity, Ogami bites the bullet and rises to his feet.
... this may or may not be a good idea.

No! If ya push th' Koubu too far right now, it'll break down completely!!

It wasn't a very hard decision, mostly aided by the fact that Ogami is weak to big wobbly puppy eyes and possibly girls with glasses but that's another barrel of fish altogether.
[Kohran]
That's it... even if y'all don't push th' Koubu, that Wakiji's already...
With the Wakiji all but ready to pass away quietly and the Koubu not making any aggressive moves, it looks like a peaceful, happy resolution is in sight!

ENTER THE BIG BAD MARIA.
AND HER HAPPY FUN TIME OVERKILL MACHINE GUN IN THE THUMBNAIL.

And all that was left of the Wakiji was a smoking crater.

More importantly, Kohran... why in the world did you tell me to stop?
[Kohran]
And... if y'all had forced th' Koubu to keep pushing itself, it looked like it was goin' t' break down...
[Sumire]
What are you saying? If Maria-san had not started shooting, it would have taken down the Ensign.
[Kohran]

Alright, let's return to the theater. I mean, there's really no point in staying here.
One by one, the Koubu start walking off, back towards their waiting ride home.
Leaving Kohran to stare at the remains of the Wakiji.
And as her callous, unknowing allies call back to her...

... Kohran starts wondering why there's all this bizarre narration running through her mind, especially with that melodramatic bit about the last remaining Wakiji, but it kinda does ring true with her.
Maybe she should do something with this text, though. Like, make it a different font color, or put it in little yellow boxes.
More importantly... Kohran realizes that she doesn't see eye-to-eye with her friends about robots.
Something's gotta give. Ooh yes.
