"By all rights, the group that went to scout out the mansion in Fukagawa should have died, despite the Shogeimaru's timely arrival. Long before the Shogeimaru could even begin sortieing its Koubu, the Hive of Darkness's Wakiji units had the Flower Division's scouts surrounded. Surviving records show that in order to reach their Koubu, the unarmed scouts would have had to make a desperate dash through the thirty-odd demon-driven mechanical soldiers; it seemed inevitable that the Flower Division was about to lost almost half of its personnel.

"A scant three minutes later, however, the number of Wakiji had plummeted down to about ten, and the scouts had reached their Koubu without incident. This discrepancy would have baffled historians for decades, if not for the fact that the missing Wakiji can be explained away with four simple words: Kanna Kirishima was there."

- Excerpt from the 1977 edition of "Samurai Spirits: The History of the Flower Division," written by M. Sunnyside.

TAISHO ERA, 12th YEAR: AUGUST
FUKAGAWA

----
[Ogami]

Dammit. It's a cliff! Guys, I don't know if we'll be able to get down safely, maybe we should--

[Sumire]

Oh, Ensign, there is an easy way to find out.

[Ogami]

What? There is?

[Sumire]

Certainly! You see, it is called Kanna-san grab his legs.

[Kanna]

Way ahead of ya!

[Ogami]

Gah! Put me down! What're you NO WAIT--

----

----
[Sumire]

... did he make it down alright?

[Kanna]

Looks like it. Okay, we're good to jump!

[Ogami]

You are all horrible, horrible human beings.

----

The only thing missing from this scene is a suitably dramatic fiery explosion that marks just how narrow their escape is.

----

Instead, we get Wakiji stopping and staring down at them; they're are forced to call off their pursuit, as they are stymied by this advanced physical technique called "jumping."

Meanwhile, in front of the mansion, we have Miroku, her bodyguard of normal Wakiji, and the sole remaining red Wakiji encountered by Kanna.

The odds were horribly stacked against him, but he survived!

[Miroku]

.... well, no matter. Right now, this must take priority...

And again, the chant.

----

The Wakiji looks up, only to see--

...

Y-you're kidding me, after all the shit he's been through and after he'd survived Kanna, Miroku's seriously not going to--

-- GYAAAAAAAAA--

-- AAAAAAAAAAA--

But he just... he just wanted to get back to his wife and kids...

HE JUST WANTED TO GET BACK TO HIS WIFE AND KIDS.

[Miroku]

Hmhmhm....
Imperial Assault Force... I shall take you out alongside the garbage!

I'LL NEVER FORGIVE HER.

[Maria]

We shall see about that.

LENS FLARE BLIMP!

And the launched Koubu who are traveling so fast that no amount of deinterlacing can clear away the afterimages! Not for lack of trying, believe you me.

----

As usual, the Imperial Assault Force, Flower Division, manages to pull off a perfect ten-point landing.

Robot Roll Call!

Sakura! "Ooh ooh ooh pick me pick me pick me PICK ME I'VE GOT MY HAND RAISED!"

Maria! "Wha-- why is the spotlight traveling so fast?"

Iris! "Sinister lighting, yaaay!"

Kohran! "... I get th' feelin' that we've been gettin' absolutely no screen time lately."

Ogami! "Am I EVER going to get my dramatic intro back, or are you guys just going to keep stealing it for the rest of the chapter?"

Kanna! "Less complaining, more destruction!

Su!

Mi!

Re! "Oh~hoh hoh hoh, bask in the presence of our theater's top star!"

[Everybody]

The Imperial Assault Force has arrived!

----

Zoom out, zoom out just a bit more--

THERE we are.

[Sumire]

Sakura-san! Could you not have found some way to fall closer to us?

[Sakura]

What about you, Sumire-san, what can we do if you're at such a narrow strip of land?
First of all, do you honestly think that all of us can land at a place like that!?
And isn't it usually the rule that we assemble in one place!?

[Ogami]

Now, now...

It's still kind of amazing that Sakura's group was able to land in that tiny and conveniently fenced-off area, no?

I had a bit of trouble translating the Japanese saying and having it retain some sort of sense, so I went with the saying-substitution route.

----

And with that, Miroku disappears in a flash, leaving behind a cloud of peacock feathers (or green one-eyed fish, depending on how you look at it).

----
[Kohran]

Ain't our objective ALWAYS th' destruction of the Wakiji?

[Ogami]

Well, uh, we can't really help it if all they do is field Wakiji, so...

[Kohran]

That's kinda too bad for 'em... th' Hive of Darkness doesn't care 'bout those Wakiji, an' all WE do is destroy 'em with a maximum of pain, y'know? They're stuck between a rock an' a hard place.

[Ogami]

... w-when you put it that way, I'm kind of starting to understand how they feel.

[Sakura]

But, but I like you, Ogami-san!

[Ogami]

Oh god. Let's, let's just get to fighting, can we?

----

[Everybody]

Understood!

And finally, the battle begins in earnest... for a given value of earnest.
